At 12:59 pm on the 15th of October 2020, it was reported that private securities showed up at Alausa to protect protesters. This was a result of the constant effort of the government to disrupt the ongoing peaceful protest via sponsored thugs and the police force. On hearing news like this, my heart swells with pride in how formidable the Nigerian youths have proven to be. The youth are clearly fed up and have decided to fight their fight this one time till the end even if they have to provide their own security as the government has once again failed them.
This would not be the first time protesters are having their peaceful protests disrupted with violence. Yesterday hoodlums, who claimed they were paid N 1,500 by the government attempted to cause chaos in Alausa, and even though they were caught and their efforts were thwarted which leaves a lot of questions behind. What exactly is the government’s problem with peaceful protests? Why is it such a big deal? And why are they resulting in violence when they can just harken to the voice of the protesters instead?
Could it be that for the first time in history, the government is threatened by the Unity of Nigerian youths? The same youths they called Lazy. The same youths they’ve given up hope in. Whatever the reason is, let it be known that in October 2020, Nigerian youths stood up for their rights without any atom of fear and intimidation and while the world stood spell-bound, the Nigerian government resulted in violence.
