The 14th of October, Day 6 of the EndSARS Protest by Nigerian Youths had a somewhat rocky start. A worrisome thread on twitter that caused a lot of uncertainty in the hearts of protesters both online and offline was served for breakfast. It seemed as though some aggrieved persons felt let airing out their opinions and hurt not minding the fact that the last thing this movement needs is division or discord. The IGP has announced the formation of a SWAT unit saying it is in response to the ENDSARS Protest, but news records have shown an exact announcement made in 2019. A video of the governor of Lagos state briefing the president quite vaguely on the 5 for 5 demands of the protesters emerged, where the president chuckled at the mention of the demand for compensation of families of victims. this was infuriating to a lot of people who interpreted that as insensitive and compassionless. Notwithstanding, protesters came out in their numbers to demand action and not the audio response the Nigerian government is fond of.
Staunchly marching on and remaining true to their cause, choosing unity against division, hooligans and hoodlums were set in among them. In Abuja the federal capital, at about 1:40 pm the pro-sars protesters as they have been nicknamed advanced toward the ENDSARS Protesters under Berger bridge, armed with large sticks ready to cause disruption. as the peaceful protesters stepped away, they pounced on vehicles destroying windshields, and windows of cars belonging to protesters. Some of these young men were captured and questioned thoroughly after which they confessed to being paid a sum of 1500 naira each to come disrupt the peace of the protest. A similar occurrence was ongoing at Alausa, just mere minutes after the Abuja incidence. It is commendable how the medical teams still attended to these individuals though their intention was to cause them harm. it gives hope that truly this generation looks past profiles to see that we are indeed one on the inside. a nation full of young people oppressed and Disadvantaged.
This makes you wonder why people are willing to pay touts to do their dirty work rather than actually End the SARS unit, reform the police force and meet the 5 for 5 demands of the protesters.
