Over the past 7 days, we have seen the efforts Nigerian government and leaders have put into doing every other thing but what we demand which is to #EndSARS.
We see the Nigerian government (FCDA) issue a ban on large gatherings under the guise of COVID-19 same Abuja that large crowd gathered to bury one of their own, Abba Kyari.
We have seen them attempt to reopen NYSC camps for youths to resume serving the country and dialogue with ASUU for universities to be reopened. Whether they are aware or not, the youths are serving the country, organizing peaceful protests to end the killing of fellow Nigerians, cleaning roads after them, and seeking justice for extrajudicial killings and accountability from leaders. So please tell me, what greater service is there?
Personally, I think it is a repulsive low, even for the government to organize thugs in Lagos and Abuja to disrupts unarmed youth's peacefully protesting especially because it exposes their connection to the insecurity that we have been fighting as a nation since 2014.
The governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu is yet to inform Lagosians about how thugs got state air-conditioned buses (BRT) and rode it to disorganize and harm Nigerians exercising their right to peacefully protest at Alausa on 15th October 2020.
Also, donation links have been deactivated to cut of protest funding sources. and they are reports of account restrictions of Nigerians who receive funding from the feminist Coalition or working in relation to the #EndSARS movement.
We watched Otedola bridge burn not once, not twice, but thrice. Yearly since 2018, Lagos island market, the office of the accountant general of the Federation, Aba market burn for hours with no water in sight. Only for peaceful protesters to grace the street and are attacked with water canisters and tankers.
It is clear that they are listening, they know what to do but chose to do otherwise and we will keep asking them to #EndSARS because of the evil that Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has done is enough.
Unfortunately for the government, all the tactics are only motivating more people to come out for protests.
