If today the 19th of October 2020 has taught us anything, it is that our government have been the same yesterday, today but hopefully not forever.
During today’s protests, we saw a lot of tactical moves played by the Nigerian government which in saner parts would be surprising, but for many citizens both home and abroad, this was expected.
Just a few days ago a number of Twitter users predicted violent moves by our government, turning so-called civil rights leaders ( like SEGALINK), use of thugs, bandits and jailbreaks as a means to discredit the #ENDSARS movement and the possible deployment of the army. As much as we’d like a situation where these assertions which are being carried out are mere coincidences but we happen to know our government a bit too well.
Today alone the country witnessed a jailbreak in Benin, which tainted media platforms pushed so vehemently to pin on protesters while also carrying out the use of the military to intimidate protesters, and also placing thugs in the midst of protests to create unrest.
There are so many theories flooding the media on who these so-called prisoners are, and how they managed to escape a heavily guarded prison facility unscathed. A lot of Nigerians do not even believe that these people were really inmates because the deplorable conditions in our prisons do not tally with the appearances of most of the alleged fugitives.
In a released video, one of these prisoners is seen with a headphone, while another is spotted to have a well rounded and otherwise plump physique distinct from most Nigerian prisoners who are known to suffer malnutrition.
Another video shows a prisoner on the run stop for a quick interview which seems a bit suspect for someone who just fled prison.
If it was not clear before, after today we can see first hand that our government is unravelling and being seen for what it really is, A den of wicked men and women who would rather silence a problem than fix it.
We can not begin to tally the amount of Human Rights Laws the Nigerian government broke today alone but we what? we move for those who have died, those who are living and an unborn generation.
