When we speak of grit and perseverance, it’s the protesters in Abuja.
We call every protester coconut heads but these ones appear like it is made of metals. Coconuts break under hard stones, metal do not. They have been severally shot at and have been chased by thugs. It appears the government comes out with severe tactics to sabotage his citizens.
Anthony Onome Umuode, an Abuja protester passed away on the 18th October as a result of complications from being stabbed by thugs. This person didn’t deserve to die this way, but he died for every Nigerian.
In the early hours of Monday morning, thugs dispersed the crowds as the protesters slept at the central bank of Nigeria premises the night before. This calls for sober reflection, this is a government premises and yet lives are not secured. This same city is said to be the capital of Nigeria yet it appears as the most insecure place for democratic moves.
Later at noon, tear gases were thrown at protesters in Asokoro. These acts of wickedness were not performed in rural areas but metropolitan areas in Abuja.
The day ended on a sad note as cars owned by peaceful protesters were set on rage at Apo this evening.
All these reveal the insensitivity of the government to its people in little things such as human rights.
Nigeria doesn’t deserve us.
